Fuel prices to increase by up to 9%

‎Fuel prices at the pump are expected to increase by between 6 and 9 percent during the second pricing window of July 2025. This is according to projections from the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) based on current market trends.

The average retail price of petroleum products is forecast to rise by about 8 percent when the new pricing window begins on Wednesday July 16 2025.

‎Expected Price Changes

‎Petrol is projected to rise by 6.47 percent from the current average of GHS11.59 per litre

Diesel is expected to see the highest jump of 9.30 percent from its current mean of GHS12.97 per litre

‎Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is anticipated to drop slightly by 0.45 percent per kilogram

In a statement issued on Tuesday July 15 COPEC explained that the projections are based on prevailing market indicators and assume no significant shifts in global Free-On-Board petroleum prices or the cedi-dollar exchange rate in the short term.

This comes despite a 4.89 percent drop in crude oil prices from $74.43 to $70.79 per barrel and a 0.47 percent depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi from GHS10.5288 to GHS10.5785 per US dollar.

COPEC attributes the expected hikes mainly to the introduction of a new GHS1 Energy Sector shortfall and debt repayment levy by the Ministry of Energy.

The Chamber also noted that actual pump prices may vary within a margin of plus or minus 5 percent depending on how the market behaves in the coming days.

The new fuel prices will take effect from Wednesday July 16 2025.
