Minority wants Interior Minister to address rising killing and crime

‎The Minority in Parliament has demanded the immediate appearance of Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak over the surge in violent crimes.

The caucus described the trend as alarming and warned that the safety and security of ordinary Ghanaians are now gravely at risk.

‎Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh raised the matter in Parliament, urging a closed-door engagement under Order 60 of Standing Orders.

‎He stressed the need for swift and decisive government action to restore public confidence in Ghana’s security apparatus amid rising attacks.

The call follows a recent spate of violent incidents, including suspected ritual killings and deadly shootings across different parts of the country.

‎On July 26, two students were shot dead on the Nalerigu Senior High School campus by unknown assailants, shocking the local community.

‎That same night, a Bawku SHS student was killed in what appeared to be a targeted attack linked to the long-standing tribal conflict.

‎In response, government imposed a revised curfew in Bawku, restricting movement from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to curb further violence.

‎A day earlier, in Asawase, Ashanti Region, an unidentified man was shot dead by assailants on a motorbike before they fled the scene.

These incidents, including the recent killing of the Kusasi Chief in Ashanti have fueled public anxiety and calls for stronger security measures.‎
