President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to address complaints over inland immigration checkpoints in the Volta Region.
The checkpoints at Asikuma, Sogakope, and the joint military-police post at Juapong have raised public concern.
This follows an appeal by the Volta Regional House of Chiefs during their visit to the Jubilee House.
Led by Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, the chiefs called for the removal of the Asikuma and Juapong checkpoints.
They cited reports of frequent harassment and disrespectful treatment by security personnel at these locations.
President Mahama acknowledged the long-standing frustrations of residents and traditional leaders in the region.
He said the checkpoints have created unnecessary difficulties for travelers and surrounding communities.
“I am mindful of the challenges posed by the inland immigration posts,” President Mahama said.
He mentioned that Asikuma, Sogakope, and Juapong barriers will be urgently reviewed by relevant authorities.
The goal, he explained is to align national security efforts with local community needs and economic activity.
