4th August is NOT a public holiday — Ministry of Interior clarifies

The Ministry of the Interior has clarified that Monday, August 4, 2025, will NOT be observed as a public holiday.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 31, 2025, in line with the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, the ministry reminded the public of the official list of statutory holidays for the year, as approved by the President.

The clarification follows questions and public speculation over whether August 4 — previously marked as Founders’ Day — would be observed this year.

According to the Ministry, only holidays listed in the official 2025 calendar are to be observed as public holidays. August 4 does not appear on that list.

The statement urged the general public, businesses, and institutions to take note and continue normal activities on that date.
