Freddie Blay defends Akufo-Addo, blames voter frustration

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Armah Blay has blamed the party’s recent political setbacks not on poor governance but on the frustration and apathy of its grassroots members.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Blay said the Akufo-Addo administration delivered strongly on its mandate in key areas but failed to keep its support base fully engaged, leading many to sit out the voting process.

“Maybe the only thing we failed to do was to carry along our membership, a greater portion of our members, and some got quite frustrated, and therefore refused to go and vote,” he said.

He strongly defended the performance of President Akufo-Addo’s government, citing notable achievements in economic management, institutional development, job creation and improvements in health, education, and security.

“In terms of handling the economy, building infrastructure, building institutions in this country, both political and security institutions, hospitals and education, I think his government did very well,” he stated.

Highlighting employment as one of the government’s biggest successes, Blay added, “In terms of even providing employment in the history of this country, that government did extremely well.”

Despite the criticism the government faced, he maintained that the NPP’s main failure was not keeping its base motivated and involved an issue he believes cost them dearly at the polls.
