Teenager reports parents to DOVVSU over food and pocket money


A teenager has reported his family to the Bono Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) for not providing him with enough food and pocket money.

The Bono Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Beatrice Korsah shared the incident with the media in Sunyani.

She explained that the unit invited the boy’s parents and has since resolved the matter amicably.

“The boy came to the unit in uniform,” DSP Korsah revealed. “His situation highlights the plight of many children who are suffering in their homes in silence.”

She commended the teenager for his bold decision to stand up for his fundamental human rights.

According to her, the boy’s decision to report his parents led to a positive outcome.

She said the case reflects DOVVSU’s commitment to supporting victims of abuse and providing a safe space for reporting.

DSP Korsah also noted that some men experience domestic violence in their homes but are often unable to report it due to societal stigma.

‎She encouraged the public to trust DOVVSU and confidently report all forms of domestic violence and human rights abuses.

Stressing that people of all ages and genders are welcome to seek help from the unit.

‎“Every abuse case must be reported to DOVVSU personnel who are well trained and capable of handling them professionally,” she said, adding that “DOVVSU unites and does not break families apart.”

She emphasised that the unit is a safe space for everyone  children, men, and women urging the public to feel comfortable bringing cases of violence to their attention.
